The Plant Science Research Group and the Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Biophysics are a partnership of research laboratories that form part of the Institute of Molecular, Cell and Systems Biology, University of Glasgow. The Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Biophysics is a world centre of excellence for expertise in plant cell electrophysiology, cellular physiology and development, fluorescence imaging, ‘omics’ technology and synthetic biology.
The Plant Science Research Group, headed by Prof. Blatt, includes excellent facilities for research across scales from the molecular to the whole plant. The Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Biophysics combines the research groups of Dr. Karnik and Prof. Blatt with their overlapping research in membrane transport, traffic and its regulation, and cellular and whole-plant water relations. They are joined by the research group of Prof. Amtmann with her interests in the epigenetics of stress and salinity. Profs. Amtmann and Blatt also share interests in synthetic biology. The Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Biophysics hosts Research Fellow Prof. Mary Williams, Features Editor for the American Society of Plant Biologists.
